Time goes and no news on the blog. No time, I dream on 96h days!

These months I've been working on:

At work, a new datacenter. going from scratch for the room, but All the existing infrastructure has to be keep or to be upgraded. And of course, it's too expensive for the manager.
Video postcasting: Friday we will make the first large try to make a large video podcast. Multicast, Real streaming, and perhaps theora/vorbis.
Having to review the project of my students. A new NX client, but it seems that they have only implemented a 1.5 compatible backend...
Managing our inline Team for the Bad Württemberg challenge . As I'm the most fluent in german, I manage all the group.
Skating! I've changed my Bond+5x90 vs. the latest Salomon+4x110 (bought at Inline Zentrum) These skate rules, I don't go faster, but it's easier

After 6 months offline, the webradio Addicted to techno is back. So my relay is up again and enjoy!

Mandriva 2007.1 release and usuability

The Mandriva 2007.1 release is coming up. It will be a very good update for 2007.0 release, with a lot of bug fixes, new software. But as awlays there is still be some caveats: The KDE team has decided for you What Good is: a large, and impressionnant "Mandriva" in the kicker :

Yes That's using some space. And the kicker height is "small".

Most people change the size of the kicker to gain place to "large":

the 4-virtual screen is 2x2, so less large
the systray use two lines too, so 2x3 icones instead of 6 icons

So let's change the height of kicker:

Amazing! Does the KDE team try other configuration than theirs own? Does they even use KDE ? Perhaps for forcing us to switch to gnome ?

Let's correct this fu**ing configuration:

edit

 /etc/kderc

and change the default directory to /usr which contains a real KDE configuration.

ghosting Mandriva 2007.0

I got some surprise, after ghosting several 2007.0 Mandriva. The network card was found as eth0, but eth1 was the device used!

After crawling around, anf thanks to guillomovitch, the problem raised from udev + mandriva: The

/etc/udev/rules.d/61-net_config.rules

contain now the MAC of the NIC. So the next computer will probably have a different MAC and so, eth1 will be used.

Juste remove this file and next time, it will be filled correctly.

samba vs. AD

New computer to install, new error with AD. No problem, that's my job.

Failed to set servicePrincipalNames. Please ensure that the DNS domain of this server matches the AD domain, Or rejoin with using Domain Admin credentials.

The full mesage was:

root@unknown1 ~# net ads join

Or rejoin with using Domain Admin credentials.

I had Administrator credentials. That's differ from normal behavior is the domain name from the computer. hostname shows me the fqdn with the AD domain, not the DNS domain (I can't use the real DNS, so I have my own AD-DNS) I removed reverse zone from the AD DNS and the computer got back its real hostname, not net ads join is working again

One more time, I'm getting the famous:

The path "/usr/src/linux/include" is a kernel header file directory, but it does not contain the file "linux/version.h" as expected. This can happen if the kernel has never been built, or if you have invoked the "make mrproper" command in your kernel directory. In any case, you may want to rebuild your kernel.

Now I will remember how to get rid of these message. First, verify that your running kernel and the /usr/src/linux are OK:

$ uname -r
2.6.12-25mdksmp

$ ls -l /usr/src/
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 sep 21 11:20 linux -> linux-2.6.12-25mdk/
drwxr-xr-x 21 root root 4096 aoû 30 12:24 linux-2.6.12-24mdk/
drwxr-xr-x 21 root root 4096 sep 21 11:32 linux-2.6.12-25mdk/

The important part is "2.6.12-25mdk" (If not, update, and install same kernel and kernel-source)

$ cp /boot/config-2.6.12-25mdksmp /usr/src/linux/.config
edit the Makefile, remove the "custom" in extraversion and put instead "smp" if needed

$ make prepare

(edit: add this too if it complain about modpost) $ make script

And, Voila, your kernel tree is OK

Like last year, when I tried to deploy windows 2003, I got problems only resolved with an non public patch from Microsoft

Last year the Administrator right were gone on my domain. This year nothing so bad, but I'm facing some errors which aren't really errors (said MSDN) for I'm not so happy: I've actived kerberos logging, before the migration on my domain. Since, I'm getting all 15mn kerberos errors,

NFS v4 and KDC in Active Directory

One more day spent to use the internal KDC from AD with NFS v4, without success.

It seems that the "net" command from samba 3.0.22 add a SPN in uppercase, I fixed that but it isn't suffisant to be able to use the SPN.

More generally, is seems that adding some SPN in AD isn't successful, even for CIFS:
